Ryan's first trip to NY

(note - I was working on this blog entry on Sunday 3/28 when Russ called to say Megan fell off the swing and was hurt and I needed to pick them up... as most people reading this probably know she's ok but she has a fractured tibia :( so needless to say, I haven't been able to get back to this post until now...)

Megan LOVES airplanes - this made flying a TON easier and even fun at times. She's been loving airplanes for a long long time and recently she's been interested in the airport since we tell her that's where Grandma and Grandpa go when they leave, and that's how you fly to NY, and that's where the planes go... Before the trip we picked up a couple books for her, her favorite was Airport by Byron Barton

So Megan was super excited about going to the airport! And when we got to our gate she just wanted to stand at the window and look at everything and of course she wanted to know what everything was and what it was doing. She practically ran onto the plane, I literally had to hold her back while they scanned our tickets! She even had no problem staying in her seat on that first flight. She was mostly standing / kneeling to see out the window though :-)

We didn't bring carseats because my parents have them already, so we used something called the CARES harness on the plane. It was ok, I think Megan had trouble getting comfortable with it but it at least kept her in her seat (she could unbuckle the seatbelt easily and did all.the.time). We were in a small plane so it was Megan at the window, Russ next to her, then the aisle, then me with Ryan on my lap. For each flight (2 up and 2 back) I had someone next to me, but luckily on each leg it was someone really nice and understanding.

The flights there went pretty well, before the planes took off was a little stressful with both kids but once the plane starting moving Megan was enthralled and Ryan was usually nursing :-) Ryan mostly nursed and slept and "talked" to the passangers around us. Megan mostly looked out her window or watching Word World on the portable DVD player we brought. On the second leg on our decent into Albany, Megan could see out her window and was talking up a storm "I see New York" "I see little cars" "I see all the cars in New York". And as we hit some turbulance on the decent I looked over and Megan's sitting going "weeeeee" and "up and down" and I went from feeling sick to laughing!

We had a great visit, it was great seeing all my family and introducing everyone to Ryan. He was quite a ham his first visit with Grammy too, he even gave her a great big laugh! He also learned to roll from his back to his tummy the second day we were there and soon was rolling everytime he was on his back.

Amy and Cameron spend Tues - Thurs at Mom and Dad's so we got lots of great time with them. Megan and Cameron still aren't to the playing with each other stage but they definitly seemed more interested in each other and what toys the other one had :-)

Unlce Jay was the star of the trip, we heard lots of "Uncle Jay chase Megan", "Wheels on the bus go round and round, Uncle Jay", Uncle Jay even put Megan to bed the night Russ and went out to a movie!

Megan slept downstairs in the den, Mom and Dad's crib was moved down there. She would wake up early in the morning and when Russ or I came down to try and get her back to bed she would just want to snuggle on the couch in the den. It was the sweetest thing, she would say "Daddy snuggle me" or "Mommy snuggle me", who can resist that? Even at 5am it was still so sweet!

Saturday was Grandpa's memorial service. I was so glad we were all there with everyone. Megan was so sweet in the car on the way to the church she said "I love papa, I love grammy" and "Papa loves Megan". We told her we were going to church to say bye bye to Papa, so during the service she kept talking about Papa, like "I want to see Papa", "Megan love Papa" It was very sweet and brought tears to my eyes.

We got back to Austin late on Sunday night, Megan stayed awake until the plane was taxi-ing to our gate!

5 months and 25 months

Megan 2 years, 1 month
My apologies for putting 25 months in the title, the 2 years, 1 month and 5 months seemed too wordy... but in general we don't refer to her age in months anymore :-)

Megan is quite the talker lately, lots of sentences and new words any time she hears them. She loves to say things like "Daddy hold Ra Ra, Mommy hold Megan". And her new favorite word is ok, said like "ok ok", to her it just means yes but it sounds so funny when you ask her something you know she really wants to do and she says "ok ok". She's gotten really good with using "I", like for example "I see airplane", "I see baby squirrel".

Speaking of baby squirrels :-) We have two in our yard and they are sooo cute! Megan of course LOVED them and they were pretty friendly. No mommy squirrel was in sight though, so we're a little worried they might not survive long :-( Here's a pic

Back to Megan... :-) She's had on again off again interest in her potty. She brings up poopy diapers a lot even when she doesn't have one. A couple times a week she'll ask to sit on her potty and a couple times she's had a dribble of pee in it, mostly she just sits on it (well she's up and down a lot, she won't just sit there, even if I'm reading her a book). We're not in a hurry at all to potty train... so this is all fine with us! :-) She does LOVE her potty books though!

We've been really enjoying the beautiful weather: sunny and 70s! Megan has been riding her bike, running around, playing in her sand table... We walk down the street to the neighborhood park a lot and there's a little pond down there too with ducks. Megan is into collecting rocks and throwing them into the pond.

Last weekend she took a big interest in her clothing, to the point where she wore a dress two days in a row :-) And on the third day she got quite upset when I explained it was dirty and needed to be washed so she couldn't wear it. Since then she's had a strong opinion on what she's wearing! I give her 2-3 choices usually but this is the first time she's had an strong opinion about it!

Megan has also getting more proficient in putting on her own clothes, she put on her shirt on Tuesday all by herself and she was so excited she ran to find me and show me! It was on backwards but I didn't have the heart to tell her so she wore it backwards all day :-) She also puts her own socks and shoes on but usually on the wrong feet. She can get her pants on her legs but hasn't figured out how to pull them up over her diaper yet.

Ryan - 5 months
Well he'll be 5 months on Monday but we're flying to Albany that day so there won't be a blog then :-)

Last weekend we got a rocking chair off craigslist for Ryan's room - yay! We read to Megan in the glider in her room before naps and at bedtime still and we couldn't see moving it anytime soon. So we got something of CL for Ryan's room for the time being. We moved Ryan's swing in there too and he naps and sleeps there at night. So we finally have our bedroom back - yay! It's very nice to get ready for bed and not have to worry about waking Ryan up! He sleeps in his swing at night for 3 - 7 hr stretches at night. On nights of the days I work he'll sleep about 3 hrs before he wakes up and I move him into our room but on nights I'm home during the day he'll sleep around 7hrs, which is GREAT!

He's jumping (see the video in our last post). He loves the jumperoo and I just think it's so cute watching him jump!

He's almost rolling back to belly, he's seems really close. Poor little guy gets really frustrated too! He just needs to figure that one arm out and he'll be good!

He's really into his sister, gives her BIG smiles and even laughs at her sometimes. He loves watching her laugh, talk and dance.

He's really good when we're out. He'll let people he doesn't know hold him and even smile for them, he's good in the stroller when we're outside, and seems to be generally in a good / mellow mood when we're out, yay!
